When dancer’s are the ages for Petite (2.5-4.5), Primary (5-6), and/or Pre-Academy (6.5-8) classes, they can choose any genre they would like to enroll in. Once dancer’s are ready to enter into The Academy, they are required to enroll in Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical to aid in their overall development as a dancer. Dancer’s must be evaluated to enter The Academy and then will continue to be evaluated at the end of the dance year (May) to determine their placement for the following season. This is to ensure that dancer’s are mastering the proper technique for their level before advancing. Dancers are not placed in their Academy levels based on age.

For those serious dancers, SDA offers an award-winning competition team program. These dancers are required to be enrolled in The Academy, Stretch & Conditioning, and additional rehearsal time. Our Company competes at a minimum of 3 competitions and attends at least 1 convention during the dance season. In addition to their time in the classroom, Company dancers are also required to submit volunteer hours and grades once a semester. Company auditions happen once a year in Spring and the program begins with Choreography Week in July.

For serious dancers who test into level 3A+ for our Academy, we offer an unique opportunity to receive comprehensive Ballet training geared to prepare them for the professional world. This program consists of 3 days a week of 3 hour ballet classes focused on strength training through our PBT certified instructors, a deep dive into Classical Ballet, ABT, and Cecchetti methods, variations, pointe work, and partnering. Dancers are graded on their technique and performance quality with in-class exams and their assigned variations at the company showcase. In addition to their Ballet hours, dancers must be enrolled in either Jazz or Lyrical. These classes are during the daytime and require students to be homeschooled or in a hybrid program.
